Geothermal is a reliable form of renewable energy that will play an important role in the energy transition. Simply put, geothermal energy is geothermal from the Earth's inner core that can be harnessed from anywhere on the planet. Unlike solar and wind, geothermal is not reliant on day-night cycles, weather conditions, or seasons. It can generate electricity 24/7 and provide what is called "baseload" power – a key component for a stable power grid. Today, most baseload power is generated by nuclear or fossil fuels (mainly coal). We can't ease our dependence on these fuels until we deploy a renewable baseload of power. That's where we come into the picture.
We believe that Baseload Capital can play a significant role in accelerating the geothermal industry in the coming decades. But we can't do it alone. We need developers, drilling experts, investors, plant operators, turbine manufacturers, governments, and communities to join us in building a brighter, more sustainable future.
In this episode, Jesper Jolma, Investment Manager at Baseload Capital sits down and discusses with our CMO Kristina Hagström Ilievska and our geologist Gabriela Skog, about the inspiration behind our new children's book, "Our Hidden Powers." Kristina had been searching for a kids book about geothermal energy a few years ago, but to no avail.
Baseload Capital is a specialized investment entity that funds the deployment of geothermal worldwide. Our portfolio of companies in Iceland, Japan, Taiwan and the U.S. work with local communities and power companies to permit, build and commission geothermal power plants. Geothermal is an affordable form of renewable energy that can be harnessed from the geothermal beneath our feet. By applying innovative financing structures to help our local operators build and run the geothermal power plants, Baseload Capital can help nations quickly transition away from fossil fuels and toward energy independence. The result will lead to more resilient societies and a planet in balance.
